Born in Charleston, SC, Toni Yates grew up near Denver, Colorado. She camped, hiked and fished the Rocky Mountains with her father and sisters at a young age and developed her love of horses when a Little Britches rodeo rider taught her to ride. Summers were often spent at her grandfather’s cabin on a lake. She married and had her oldest son Erik (who lives in Colorado), living in Washington state and New Hampshire (also on a lake). She was with Citicorp for 13 years and relocated to northern Virginia in the 80’s where she met her now husband of over 20 years, Terry, a civil engineer. Terry is a native from southwest Virginia in the Appalachian Mountains.

After their oldest son was born in Reston, a job opportunity led them to Toledo, OH where they renovated a turn-of-the-century townhouse in the Old West End and had 2 more children. When another opportunity arose in Virginia in 1994 they rented a house at Lake Anna sight unseen and began to look for a house to buy in Fredericksburg. The more they looked, the more they decided to stay in the Lake Anna area and the rest is literally history. After living at the lake since 1994, they now live at historic Greenway Farm on 34 acres within a couple miles of Lake Anna. They have dogs, cats, miniature and Quarter horses.

Toni got her real estate license in 1996 and was with 2 Lake Anna firms prior to founding RE/MAX Lake & Country with a partner. After 8 successful years the business was sold so that the partners could focus on their clients. Toni loves to travel and has been to Mexico, Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados, Aruba, England, Italy and Switzerland. She recently became the grandmother of Peter William Foster of Steamboat Springs, CO has a son at Virginia Military Institute and a son and daughter at Orange County High School.
